Evaluation and Therapy Services at Attachment and Trauma Specialists

Our Clients

The common symptoms described for healthy attachment and attachment disorders exhaust parents and teachers, and leave children socially isolated and in emotional pain. It is these children, teens, and their families that we work with at the Attachment and Trauma Specialists.

Children with attachment disorders generally did not have the opportunity, as babies and young children, to develop reciprocal (mutual, give-and-take) relationships built on trust and a feeling of emotional safety.

As a result, they often live with psychological and emotional damage experienced as anger, frustration, depression, and anxiety. They are distant and behave coldly towards loving parents. They have developed ways of interacting with the world that are not conducive to building trust or accepting nurturing from well-meaning parents.

Family intentions

Some of the children and teens we treat at Attachment and Trauma Specialists live with their birth families. But the majority of them joined their families through foster care or adoption. Generally, parents brought these children—whose pasts have been significantly disrupted—into their families with the intention of loving them and enjoying family life together.

Parents or caregivers offer warmth, love, and a commitment to good parenting. But the tragedy of attachment disorder usually leaves them confused, disappointed, angry, and frustrated. They are generally well meaning but unprepared for the behavioral pathology these children bring into their families.
